FAQ
What makes ALKU different from other clothing brands?
ALKU was created as an alternative to plastic-based fashion and short-lived trends.
We work exclusively with 100% linen (never blends), chosen for its breathability, durability, and how it feels on the body.
Each piece is designed to be timeless, versatile, and flattering - made to be worn often and loved for years. Instead of chasing fast fashion cycles and overproduction, we focus on small batches, thoughtful design, and quality construction, including details that allow garments to be repaired and lived in, not replaced.
ALKU isn’t about labels or perfection. It’s about making more conscious choices, starting with what we wear.
Where are your materials sourced, and what standards do they meet?
Our linen is made from flax fibres sourced from France, known for producing some of the world’s highest-quality linen.
The fabric and dyeing mills we work with are OEKO-TEX® certified, meaning the materials used in our garments have been tested to meet strict standards for harmful substances.
While ALKU as a brand is not OEKO-TEX® certified, we intentionally choose certified mills and trusted partners to ensure our clothing is gentle on the skin, responsibly produced, and made with care.
What if the size I bought doesn't fit?
We truly want you to love your ALKU pieces and feel comfortable wearing them. We understand that buying clothing online can be tricky, and getting the sizing just right isn’t always easy - especially with natural fabrics like linen.
That’s why every order includes one free exchange within Australia, so you can change the size or colour if needed. Just send us an email to contact@alkuclothing.com and we'll take care of the rest.
Why do you only have 3 pieces in your first collection?
As a small business, we’ve chosen to begin with intention - three timeless pieces that speak to versatility, simplicity, and care. Each design can be worn in different ways, dressed up or down, and paired with what you already own. It’s a gentle beginning, a first light - and from here, we’ll grow together. Your support helps us grow consciously and stay true to our values.
Why did you choose linen?
Because linen is more than a fabric - it’s a philosophy. Linen is breathable, durable, biodegradable, and softens beautifully with time. It’s clothing that lives with you, not against you. Choosing linen is our way of honouring both the Earth and your skin.
How do I take care of my ALKU pieces?
Treat them with the same gentleness they were made with.
- Cold gentle machine wash or hand wash.
- Use mild, eco-friendly detergent.
- Air dry in the shade (avoid tumble drying where possible).
- Embrace the natural texture - ironing is optional, but we love the effortless, lived-in look of linen.
What does sustainability mean to ALKU?
For us, sustainability is about slowing down. It’s choosing timeless design over fleeting trends, creating with intention, and making garments built to last. Wherever possible, we avoid unnecessary materials like synthetics or elastics. If an elastic is needed for design, we make sure it’s replaceable - so your favourite piece can live on, not end up in landfill. Sustainability to ALKU is not about perfection, but about doing better, step by step.
Will linen shrink or change over time?
To minimise shrinking, always follow the care instructions on the garment label. Linen becomes softer and more comfortable with every wear and wash - it only gets better with age. With proper care, your ALKU pieces are designed to last for years to come.
Where are ALKU garments made?
Our pieces are currently made in China by a reputable manufacturer that also works with other respected Australian brands. Our vision is to one day have our own ALKU production space, where we can ensure every detail meets the highest standard of care - for people, for the planet, and for you.
Is your packaging sustainable?
Yes. Every detail of your order - from labels to the shipping box - is biodegradable and compostable. Even the “plastic” bags are plant-based and you can compost them at home. Nothing is left behind but beauty.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes, on all orders over $200. For smaller orders, we charge a small shipping fee to keep our practices sustainable.
What does “Return to your true nature” mean?
It’s both a reminder and an invitation. To slow down. To breathe. To reconnect with the Earth and with yourself. ALKU clothing is designed to bring you closer to that truth - that you are not separate from nature, but part of it.
Why the name ALKU?
ALKU means beginning in Finnish. For us, every garment is a new beginning - a chance to honour nature, embrace simplicity, and live with intention.
